2026 Sheep & Cattle Seminar

Join us for our combined Cattle & Sheep Seminars

Held in conjunction with Jono's Sheep Services, the team from Jono's Cattle Services will be hosting seminars throughout 2026. Come and join us, and step into the world of livestock with confidence.

Our hands‑on seminars are designed not only for new and aspiring hobby farmers, but also for anyone who feels they could use a refresher or a bit of extra guidance.

Learn the essentials of caring for cattle and sheep, including daily husbandry, nutrition, welfare requirements, legal obligations, and practical on‑farm skills. Whether you’re starting out, returning after a break, or simply wanting to sharpen your knowledge, these sessions offer clear guidance, expert insights, and real‑world demonstrations to support you at every stage.

What to expect on the day

Stage 1 - Sheep Theory (9am)

Stage 2 - Sheep Practical (11am)

Stage 2 - Sheep Practical (11am)

During the Stage one of the Sheep seminar, you'll get to learn a wide variety of topics around sheep, goats and alpacas. Some of these topics include:

  • Sheep lingo
  • General Health Checks
  • Animal Identification
  • Shearing Practices (& it's importance in the industry)
  • Diseases & Prevention
  • Basic Sheep Nutrition
  • Biosecurity 

Stage 2 - Sheep Practical (11am)

Stage 2 - Sheep Practical (11am)

The practical session of the Sheep Seminar is where you'll get to apply your learning from the theory session to a real-world practice, in a safe and controlled environment. Topics covered include: 

  • How to Safely Move Sheep
  • Correct Technique to Flip Sheep
  • How to do Sheep Health Checks
  • Detecting Lice & Disease
  • Safely & Ethically Castrate and De-tail a Lamb

Stage 3 - Cattle Theory (1pm)

 Stage 3 of the day, starts off with some theory, where you'll get to learn a wide variety of topics such as:

  • Lingo used in the cattle industry
  • Basic fundamentals of owning cattle
  • General health checks of livestock
  • Health services required (vaccines & drench)
  • Breeding plans & Herd Management
  • Cattle behaviour & safe handling practices
  • Animal Identification & PIC Numbers
  • Biosecurity on your property

Stage 4 - Cattle Practical (3pm)

The practical session of the Cattle Seminar will involve applying theory to a practical session, where you will learn the following topics and more: 

  • How to set yards up for safe & practical use
  • Safely handle & move cattle
  • Types of crushes, use & safely handling cattle in a crush
  • Use of a crush for cattle services
  • Artificial Insemination

Seminar Dates - 2026

Our Cattle & Sheep Seminars run across a full day, giving you the flexibility to choose the experience that suits you best.

🐑 Sheep Session: 9:00am – 12:00pm
🐄 Cattle Session: 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Join us for either a half‑day focused on the species you’re most interested in, or stay for the full day to deepen your knowledge across both. Each session is practical, informative, and designed to build confidence in livestock care, welfare requirements, and on‑farm skills.

Details About the Day

What time does it start?

Gates open from 8:45am with the sheep seminar starting at 9am.

Cattle seminar starts at 1pm.

Where is it located

 The seminar will be held in Littlehampton SA 5250

(full details will be available upon booking)

How much is it?

Sheep Seminar - Morning Session (9am-12pm): $35 per person

Cattle Seminar - Afternoon Session (1pm-4pm): $35 per person

Sheep & Cattle Seminar - Full Day: $60 per person

Do I Need to Bring Anything

Yes, you will need to bring your own lunch and water. Morning and afternoon tea will be supplied if you stay for the whole day.

It is recommended to bring a note pad and pen to write down any information you learn. Bring along any questions you may have about your sheep even if we aren't covering the topic.

Will we be near animals?

Yes, you will be in close contact with animals including handling them in yards. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. If you are not wearing appropriate footwear or clothing you may not be able to participate in the practical activities.
